BRONZE MEDAL FROM HANZHOU
Turkmen athletes performed successfully at the 19th Summer Asian Games held in Hangzhou. Karateka Bayry Bayryev won another victory.
5th year student of the Faculty of Architecture and Construction of our Institute Bayry Bayryev received a bronze medal in kumite (sparring), conducted according to the rules of the World Karate Federation (WKF). 22 athletes competed for medals in the weight category up to 67 kg. In the first round, Bayry lost with a score of 1:4 to the future champion of the XIX Asian Games, Fahad Al-Ajmi (Kuwait). But he defeated his opponents in the following matches of the repechage tournament, where the fate of one of the two bronze medals was decided. First, our student defeated Rinchen Jamtshon (Bhutan) with a score of 8:0, then he defeated Nurlanbek ogly Kalys (Kyrgyzstan) with a score of 8:4, and in the fight for the bronze medal he defeated Chen Chun Shin (Taiwan) with a score of 9:1.
Last month, Bayry Bayryev took second place in the open weight category at the World Shotokan Karate Championships, held in Tashkent under the auspices of the World Shotokan Karate Federation (WSKF). And at the Asian Games (WKF) he won the first karate medal in the history of Turkmen sports.
