The Grand Art of Buildings: Ashgabat

In the Revival Era of the Powerful State, our country is achieving significant progress in the field of architecture and construction.
Great efforts are also being made to strengthen the foundation of education provided to the youth. At the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction, regular academic and industrial internships are organized to improve this field.

On May 14, 2025, an academic-industrial internship was held to introduce students more extensively to the architectural features of our capital, Ashgabat. During the Revival Era of the Powerful State, Ashgabat has undergone major transformations thanks to the tireless efforts and visionary policy of the Hero Arkadag and our Esteemed President, Hero Arkadagly Serdar. The construction of residential buildings, white schools, kindergartens, administrative institutions, and other important facilities in compliance with international standards contributes to reshaping the architectural and urban image of the capital.

Historically, Ashgabat has been located at the crossroads of important craft and trade routes, nestled at the foot of the beautiful Kopetdag mountains. It has always been a center where innovations and progressive ideas were widely implemented from ancient times to the present. Today, the capital is known worldwide as a center of diplomacy and the cradle of peace-loving initiatives that affect the destiny of nations. Ashgabat, as an industrially advanced city, is recognized as a symbol of sustainable development, safety, and unique beauty.

On May 25, 2013, Ashgabat was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the city with the highest number of buildings clad in white marble. Since then, May 25 has been widely celebrated as Ashgabat City Day throughout the country.

Currently, the following sites in Ashgabat are listed in the Guinness World Records:

the world’s tallest flagpole,

the “Oguzhan” fountain complex,

the “Alem” cultural and entertainment center,
the “Turkmenistan” television and radio broadcasting center,

the Oguz Khan Star, covered on both sides with special glass,

the lake image in the passenger terminal of the International Airport of Ashgabat,

the sculpture of an Ahalteke horse on the tribune of the Olympic Stadium,

and the Aquatic Sports Center.
These accomplishments make every one of us proud and serve as clear evidence of the great achievements of Turkmenistan in architecture and construction on the global stage.

The academic-industrial internship held on the eve of Ashgabat City Day generated great interest among students and inspired new creative initiatives. The students’ creative works will be presented at an exhibition organized by the “Architecture” Department of the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction on the occasion of Ashgabat City Day.
